We don’t need any more of these unattractive, disheveled, dirty, scaly, slimy, mottled, mangy, and otherwise disgusting digital beings.
We’re sick of it.
I’m not saying that every single video game character needs to be a virtual supermodel. But the industry needs to take some steps toward beautification again.
It’s not good for anybody. Because the last thing gamers want is to play a game featuring an unattractive protagonist. If the character is unattractive, then you don’t want to play as them. The way video games work, when you’re playing them, you want to relate to the characters that you’re playing as.
So, if you’re a character who’s ugly, it kind of makes you feel a little bit like shit. And, in turn, you might not even want to play the game anymore. In the 2000s, you had normal-looking models for people, and no one complained. The only reason this is a problem at all is because of the elusive “modern audience” that game developers are trying to pander to. Time and time again, we see these games fail spectacularly and companies are left scratching their heads wondering what went wrong. Even though the answer is punching them in the face.
Fortunately, Asian companies haven’t gone full retard yet and still manage to produce good-looking characters, albeit coomer bait gacha ones, but I’d rather have that than whatever mystery meat is being pushed out nowadays.
